Position: Research Assistant

Type: Summer employment (Duration: 8 weeks; 35 hrs per week; Wage: $16.00/hr)

To qualify for this job the applicants MUST:

1. Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

2. Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act* and;

3. Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian citizens or permanent residents.

Position Overview:

The successful candidate will be working with Coalition team members to support the analysis of the Coalition’s Green Hospital Scorecard, Canada’s only national environmental benchmarking tool for hospitals. Key tasks will be identifying environmentally sustainable best practices in the sector through online research and data analysis, and creating visual representation of the data using graphs and charts. Stakeholder engagement may also form part of the job duties.

Further, the candidate will research best practices, technologies and services used in the Canadian health sector with a particular focus on reusable alternatives to medical single use devices. He/she will conduct online research as well as connect with health care workers across Canada to collect data on waste reduction and reuse in Canadian health care facilities.

Research findings will be used to generate knowledge translation content such as webpages, PowerPoint presentations, reports and more.

Key job responsibilities:

·    Develop graphs and charts and other visuals from collected data;

·    Conduct online research to identify environmentally sustainable best practices in the health sector;

·    Connect with health care facilities across Canada by way of email, telephone and/or Zoom meetings to gather information;

·    Assist in the creation of case studies, media articles, fact sheets, and presentations.

·    Collaborate with other Coalition team members on related projects as required.

Applicants should:

·    Have an interest in/knowledge of environmental sustainability issues in health care;

·    Be highly proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs – specifically excel;

·    Have excellent written and oral proficiency in English;

·    Be able to work well independently and within a virtual team; and have access to a home office or other work station with a computer and reliable phone and Wi-Fi connection.
